do you know how to make an up/down counter using D-Type flip-flops. thanks?

It would be good to have some more specifics, but I'm assuming you mean a binary numeral counter that uses a clock cycle input.

One method to do this would be to set up a finite state machine. with your inputs being the current state of the d latch array and your output would be the input to the d latch arraywhich will be the next state. Then set up a karnough map to get your binary logic equation.
