flip flops- whats the best way to keep them from drying out?

I have some great flip flops but can't wear them year round, what is the best way to keep them from getting like dry rot? or drying out and going bad? they of course are the rubber sole kind. thanks!

give them a good clean
put them in a shoebox with a scented bar of soap
thats it and it works
