How do you walk in flip flops? I'm having problems with my heel going off the sole (inwards)?

I have both a pair with the thong between the first two toes and one with just the strap across, but I can't seem to walk in them. They either feel as though they are sliding off my feet or as I walk, my heels go inward, going off the sides of the flip flop.
