A bistable flip flop:
Simple configuration a pair of two input NAND gates. Connect one input of each gate to the output of the other. If the remaining inputs are held at logic one or high, Only one of the outputs will be high. If one of the inputs is taken to low the corresponding output will go high and stay high until the other input is taken to a low.
